At night Sinterklaas and Piet put a present and kruidnoten in the shoes of children who have been nice all year round.. Kruidnoten are small crispy cookies that are often thrown around the room by Piet when they visit somewhere during the day.  In the Netherlands you now have all kinds of variants; covered with chocolate, but also with all kinds of added flavors
